Golf in Nerja There is a great variety of golf courses located in the area. The Costa del Sol is also known as the "Costa del Golf" with numerous excellent courses spread all over the region. One of the golf courses that can be found in the area is the Baviera Golf in Axarquía, near Caleta de Vélez. Inaugurated in 2001, the course is suitable for all players and offers magnificent natural surroundings. The course was designed by José María Cañizares. Nerja Caves The impressive Nerja Caves belong to the region’s most visited and spectacular attractions. Declared a national monument, the caves lay hidden within the Sierra Almijara mountain range for a very long time before their discovery in the 20th century. It is a sight visited by more than 500.000 people annually. Not only the caves themselves attract visitors but also the pre-historic paintings that can be found within them and date back to the Aurignacian culture and the Copper Age. One of the largest caves that can be found here is used for music and dance festivals and other events during the summer months. The incredible lighting and the stunning acoustics make each event to an unforgettable and unique experience.
